vsftp hanging - testing using /bin/echo

shows how to test something other than blockhosts - if the /bin/echo command also results in failure, then take a look at the tcp wrappers requirements - listed in the BlockHosts page, maybe hosts options are not supported, or there is some other problem in that area.

Another thing to try is to remove the %c-%s and %h tags in the command - maybe those are causing delay in your hosts.access setup, remove the --echo and --check-ip options, make it look like:

vsftpd: ALL: spawn (/usr/bin/blockhosts.py --verbose >> /var/log/blockhosts.log 2>&1 )& : allow
